Richmond Team to Host Lax Camp

BERLIN- Veteran local girls’ lacrosse enthusiasts and young players hoping to get introduced to the game will have a great opportunity next month with the University of Richmond woman’s team hosts a series of camps at Worcester Prep in Berlin.

The University of Richmond team, led by former Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year Sue Murphy as well as 2005 Worcester Prep graduate and former Mallard lacrosse standout Sarah Townsend will host the Premiere Lacrosse Camp at the Berlin school in June for advanced players already involved in the sport and beginners hoping to learn the game and get involved in one of the fastest growing sports in the area.

The camps will be held in Monday, June 16 to Wednesday, June 18 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. A development camp will be held for young girls in grades 5-8, while an elite camp will be held for veteran players in grades 9-12. The program will also include a youth clinic for girls entering grades 3-4 on Monday night, June 16, from 6-8 p.m. The cost for the three-day development and elite camps is $175, while the one-day youth clinic will cost $25. All participants will receive a camp T-shirt along with other giveaways from Brine.

The University of Richmond team and Coach Murphy bring impressive resumes to the camps slated next month at Worcester Prep. The Spiders had won three straight A-10 conference championships before falling to UMass in its bid for a fourth straight in late April. The Spiders are perennial participants in the NCAA women’s tournament, having appeared three straight years, and Murphy is a former A-10 Coach of the Year.
