June C. Schafer

SALISBURY – June C. Schafer, age 83, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.

Born in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Claire York Goebel. She is survived by her beloved husband, David A. Schafer, Sr.; a daughter, Lynda Thompson and her husband Gregory; a son, David A. Schafer, Jr. and his wife Linda; and three grandchildren, Lana Thompson, Nicole Schafer and Hollie Schafer.

Services were held. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bay Shore Community Church, Missionary Fund, 36759 Millsboro Hwy., Millsboro, Del. 19966.

Bradley Aaron Quillen

SNOW HILL – Bradley Aaron Quillen, age 20, died suddenly on Saturday, May 24, 2008.

Born in Salisbury he was the son of Kathy A. Gravenor and Whitely C. Quillen, III, "Chuck".

He was an avid deer and duck hunter. He had been a maintenance worker for the Wicomico County Roads Department.

Along with his parents, he is survived by his step-mother, Mary Beth Quillen; his fiancé, Tina Renae Marvel; a daughter, Jaylin Marie Quillen; grandparents, Whitely C. Quillen, Jr., Margaret B. Bonnaville, Mary F. Age and Buddy R. Age; step-grandparents, Joyce D. Quillen, Ronald W. Bonnaville, and Patricia T. Adkins; great grandmother, Bonnie Age; four brothers, Roy Brewington, Jr, Timothy Brewington, Whitely C. Quillen, IV, "Chip", and Andrew M. Quillen; special friend, Becky Liddle; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Lee Age; an uncle, Buddy Brittingham; and a cousin, Jeff Shockley.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Whatcoat United Methodist Church in Snow Hill. Friends may pay respects from 1-2 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in Whatcoat Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bradley Quillen Memorial Fund, c/o Taylor Bank, 108 W. Market St., Snow Hill, Md. 21863. Beverly Ann Lichtman

OCEAN CITY – Beverly Ann Lichtman (nee Balthaser), age 58, died Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at her home in Ocean City.

Born in Baltimore, she is the daughter of Edna Gunning and the late Paul Balthaser.

She had begun a career in real estate in 2007. She was a licensed instrument rated private pilot and a first mate in boating, which she loved. She enjoyed traveling, skiing and loved animals.

Along with her mother, she is survived by her fiancé, Brian Gamm of Ocean Pines; two daughters, Stacey Butler of Pasadena and Mary Beth Layman of Oregon; a sister, Amy Williams of Severn; two grandchildren, Shannon Butler and Joshua Layman; and her beloved pets, Darlin and Lattee. Along with her father, she was preceded in death by her step-father Clifford Williams.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 2 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Ocean City. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at church. The Rev. Dr. Harry Wolpert will officiate.

Martin Alfred Melson, Sr.

SALISBURY – Martin Alfred Melson, Sr., age 71, died Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury from a massive stroke.

Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Avery Melson and Narcissus Davis Melson. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Ann Short Melson.

Melson had been a poultry farmer for many years, member of the National Guard, was an avid horseshoe player, furniture refinisher, loved the outdoors and his children and grandchildren.

Along with his wife, he is survived by a son, Martin Melson, Jr. of Salisbury; two daughters, Terri Morris and her husband Charlie of Salisbury and Lori Evans and her husband Tom of Newark; three grandchildren, Ashley Age and her husband Ryan, Adrian Melson and Brianna Melson; and step grandchildren, Catherine and Charles Morris, III. Melson was preceded in death by a brother, Dewey Melson.

A private graveside service will be held at a future date. Donations may be made to Olivet Christian Church, Building Fund, 1806 Honeywell Rd., Snow Hill, Md. 21863. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Snow Hill.

George Vernon Wayson

OCEAN CITY – George Vernon Wayson, Jr., age 60, died Thursday, May 22, 2008 at the home of his daughter in Ocean City.

Born in Washington, D.C. he was the son of the late George Vernon Wayson, Sr. and the husband of the late Rita Joyce Wayson who died in 2000. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Bridget C. Wayson, in 2006.

Wayson had worked for Chaney Enterprizes and family-owned Wayson’s Amusements, which runs the popular bingo parlor "Wayson’s Bingo". He was formerly involved with thoroughbred horse racing, seeing many of his horses run to victory. He had been a member of the Annapolis Elks and the Masonic Lodges in Annapolis. He had lived in Lothian most of his life and had spent

the last seven years in Ocean City and Bonita Springs, Fla.

He is survived by his mother, Agnes E. Wayson of Lothian, Md.; a daughter, Amy Comolli and her husband David of Ocean City; four brothers, Richard Wayson of Lothian, Md., Donald Wayson of Prince Frederick, Md., Samuel Wayson of Bonita Springs, Fla. and Morgan Wayson of Lothian, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles Albert Holland Jr.

BERLIN – Charles Albert Holland, Jr., died on Friday, May 23, 2008 at the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Berlin.

Born in Powellville on April 30, 1907, he was the son of the late Dr. Charles Albert Holland and Abbie White Holland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elvine Strong Holland; a brother, Arthur Percy Holland; and a sister, Alice Holland Shorley, all of Ocean City.

Holland was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ocean City where he had been an Elder for many years. He was also a member and past president of the Ocean City Rotary Club and the Sinepuxent American Legion. He was a Realtor and charter member of the Greater Ocean City Board of Realtors. He served in the Army in World War II where he attained the rank of Major.

He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Helyn Hobson and her husband Larry of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Virginia Holland Nicoll of Salisbury; and three grandchildren, David Charles Echols and Laura Khe Echols, both of Florida and Carl Robert Echols of Ocean City. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren and three nephews.

 A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Episcopal Churchyard in Berlin.

Helen M. Perry

OCEAN CITY – Helen M. Perry, age 80, died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at her home in Ocean City.

Born in Shenandoah, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William Joseph Ryan and Helen Wychilus Ryan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Leroy Perry, Jr.

Perry was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Ocean City where she had been a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, the Polish Club, Ladies Club of Ocean City and the Lady Elks.

She is survived by a son, Ryan Perry and his wife Linda of Annapolis; three daughters, Lesley Wendler and her husband Siegbert of Ocean Pines, Michelle Navarra and her husband Robert of Prince Frederick, Md. and Jo-Ann Chernega and her husband James of Ashburn, Va.; a sister, Eleanor McDonald of Ocean City; and nine grandchildren, Jean, Robert, Michael, Chris, Jimmy, Jonathan, Michelle, David and Jessica.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, May 30, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church in Ocean City. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Richard Smith will officiate. Interment will be on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, Md. at 10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elks National Foundation, 2750 N. Mary Louise Jackson

BERLIN – Mary Louise Jackson, age 80, died Monday, May 26, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Berlin.

Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Adrienne Etien.

She is survived by her husband, Robert William Jackson, Sr.; four children, Suzanne Marie Jackson of Berlin, Robert William Jackson, Jr. of Ocean City, Lisa Ann Taylor and her husband Chuck of Ocean City and Michelle "Lynn" Jackson of Berlin; two grandchildren, Adrienne Taylor and Jordan Taylor both of Ocean City; a great grandson, Landon Reed; sisters, Marge Homsher of Lancaster, Pa. and Dina Wilcox and her husband Mike of Buford, Ga.; a nephew, Steven Wilcox and his wife Amy; and a niece, Jennifer Wilcox. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Benjamin "Bud" Homsher.

Jackson had previously worked in sales with Macy’s department store in

New York City and later as an administrative clerk and the United States Public Health Dept. in Perry Point, Md. She had been a member of the Ladies Auxilary of the Perryville Volunteer Fire Company, Perryville, Md.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 4 p.m. at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Interment will be private at a future date in Hopewell Cemetery in Port Deposit, Md. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802.

Dorothy F. Locke

BERLIN – Dorothy F. Locke, 93, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center while recovering from a fractured hip.

Born in Portsmouth, N.H., she was the daughter of William M. and Hattie M. Fife. She grew up in Kittery, Maine, where she attended Traip Academy, graduating in 1932. She attended Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C.

She married William J. Locke in 1936 who predeceased her in 2005. As a military officer’s wife, she accompanied her husband on various military assignments in the U.S., Europe and the Philippine Islands. As a beloved grandmother, she provided precious childhood memories fro the neighborhood by assisting the children produce plays and set up lemon-aid stands. She was a bubbly small wisp of a lady with a huge heart who positively influenced everyone she met. She was very much loved in return.

She is survived by her son, William C. Locke of Ormand Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Christine J. Marczynski of Ocean City.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Janet May Glaser Pace

BERLIN – Janet May Glaser Pace, age 68, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Franklin Joseph Glaser and Gracia May Bankard Glaser. She is survived by her husband, Donald Carl Pace, Sr.

Pace was a graduate of Towson State College. She had worked for many years as a teacher. She was a member of the Thursday Bridge Club of Ocean

City.

Along with her husband, she is survived by a son, Donald Carl Pace, Jr. and his wife Marissa of Manalapan, N.J.; a daughter, Nancy Lynn Brown and her husband Francis of Finksburg, Md.; and four grandchildren, Erica Brown, Harrison Brown, Donald Philip Pace and Philip Steven Pace.

Ernest Miles

BERLIN – Ernest Miles, age 88, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John Fite Miles and Florence Lemaitre Miles. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Sparrow Miles.

Miles had worked for many years a s a printer with Oneida Packaging. He was a WWII veteran and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.

Along with his wife, he is survived by a son, Earnest Miles, Jr.; a brother, John Fite Miles and his wife Winifred; a sister, Dorothy Breeden and her husband Robert; four grandchildren, Dustin, Ernest, III, Brandon and Jordan Miles; many nieces, nephews loving sisters and brothers -in-law; and a host of friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Friendship United Methodist Church in Berlin. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Edward Lee Hastings

BERLIN – Edward Lee Hastings, age 70, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 28, 2008.

Born in Libertytown, he was the son of the late Milton Henry Hastings and Bertie Ellen Williams Hastings. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Billie Jean Earp Hastings; his daughter, Faith Lynn Hastings Daye and her husband Michael Dean Daye of Berlin; two grandchildren, SPC Amanda Lee Taylor of Fort Bragg, NC and Matthew Allen Taylor of Berlin; two step-grandchildren; a foster daughter, Ella Nora Bratten and her husband Mark of Pittsville; and two foster grandchildren.

Hastings was preceded in death by a brother, Vincent T. "Jake" Hastings, in 1994 and a sister, Irma Parsons, in 1991.

Hastings attended Faith Chapel Presbyterian Church in Libertytown. He worked at Hastings Body Shop in St. Martins for 46 years. He loved his tractors, farming, camping and spending time with friends. Most of all he loved his family and was greatly loved in return. He will be missed more than words can express.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Libertytown. The Rev. Gary Baer will officiate.
