New Employees Announced
BERLIN – Becker Morgan Group, Inc. recently welcomed various new staff members to their team.
Heather M. Smith joins Becker Morgan Group as a Civil Designer in the Salisbury office. Smith has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
Mark T. Preziosi joins Becker Morgan Group as an Architectural Designer. With 24 years in the architecture industry, Preziosi brings a thorough understanding of the design process.
Scott L. Gordon joins Becker Morgan Group as a Civil Technician in the Dover office. Gordon is pursuing a Civil Engineering Degree from Delaware Technical Community College.
Sapna Receives Certification
BERLIN – George, Miles & Buhr, LLC (GMB) has announced that Katie A. Sapna, recently passed the examination to become a Professional in Human Resources (PHR.)
The Society of Human Resources designated the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) as an independent, recognized certifying body for the human resources profession.
In order to be eligible to sit for the PHR exam, Sapna was required to verify at least two years of professional level HR experience and had to pass a four-hour comprehensive examination. The PHR credential validates mastery in the field of generalist human resources management.
Sapna is the Human Resources Specialist at GMB. She is responsible for activities involving recruitment, retention, employee relations, training and development, and HR administration for the firm’s staff of 130 employees.
Top Producer Named
BERLIN – Atlantic/Smith, Cropper & Deeley has announced Nicole Brushmiller as top producer for April.
Brushmiller, a property and casualty account executive, specializes in commercial and transportation insurance.
Brushmiller received her undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Salisbury University and masters degree from University of Maryland.
Governor’s Appointment
SALISBURY – Jeanne Ruff, MS, ACSM RCEP, FAACVPR, Director of Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s Guerrieri Heart & Vascular Institute in Salisbury, Maryland, was recently appointed to Governor Martin O’Malley’s Maryland State Advisory Council on Physical Fitness. Ruff joined 11 others from across the state who were officially sworn in at a ceremony in Baltimore on May 5.
The Maryland State Advisory Council on Physical Fitness is a diverse panel whose mission is to educate, advise and encourage the citizens of Maryland to gain health benefits and enhance the quality of their lives through physical fitness.
“The new focus of the council is to broaden its mission beyond physical fitness to include all activities, and to promote healthier lifestyle behaviors,” said Ruff.
Working collaboratively with a broad range of agencies and organizations, the council has as its goals to collect and assemble physical activity-related information, disseminate that information among Maryland residents and to maintain liaisons with state and local agencies to improve physical education opportunities for all Maryland citizens.
“A healthier citizenry is essential to the common good and our quality of life,” said Governor O’Malley. “A healthier citizenry means lower costs for our health care system, more productivity in the work force, and it strengthens the bonds of community as our friends, family and neighbors live longer and have more opportunity to give back to those around them.”
Ruff’s appointment marks the first time that the Eastern Shore of Maryland has had a representative on the Maryland State Advisory Council on Physical Fitness. She is also the only member on the council working professionally in the field of health care. Her appointment is for a four-year term.
Supervisory Course Offered
SALISBURY — Managers and supervisors can learn strategies for coaching and methods for assessing employee strengths and opportunities by taking “Coaching Skills for Supervisory Success,” which is being offered by the continuing education division at Wor-Wic Community College.
The class will meet on Friday, June 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the college campus on the corner of Route 50 and Walston Switch Road in Salisbury.

Utility Launches New Site
SALISBURY – Delmarva Power has refreshed the design of its website with a new look that will make it easier for visitors to navigate and find information.
The improved design features a blue and green color palette to reflect the company’s environmental focus. A new section titled “Our Energy Future” has been added to incorporate the company’s plan for the future, energy-saving tips and other environmental features. Additionally, customer self-service applications have been improved, making it easier for customers to pay their bills online and access various customer service requests.
“This redesign will enable our customers to more easily transact business with us online at their own convenience,” said Charles R.
