SD Senior Wins AXA Scholarship

BERLIN – AXA Advisors, LLC, a leading provider of financial services for consumers and businesses, has announced that Emily Meadows, a high school senior attending Stephen Decatur High School in Berlin, is the Maryland winner of the 2008 AXA Achievement Scholarship in association with (ITALICS)U.S. News & World Report.

Under the AXA Achievement Scholarship program, Meadows is one of 52 students – one from each state, plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico – that have been awarded scholarships of $10,000.Each scholarship recipient, known as an AXA Achiever, was named in the magazine’s April 21 issue.

Seeing the need for a safe place for children to go when they get off the school bus, Meadows founded After-School Agape, an after-school program in a low-income neighborhood for children from single-parent homes. She worked with the executive director of the Agape facility to organize and schedule the program, held supply drives in her church and school to collect the necessary materials, and got a local bookstore to donate hundreds of books.
