Crofton Man Killed In Two-Car Accident

BERLIN – A two-car collision on Route 12 near Girdletree on Wednesday night claimed the life of a Crofton, Md. man.

Shortly after 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Worcester County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported motor vehicle collision on Route 12 just north of Girdletree. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a Chevrolet pick-up truck in the center of the road and a Ford Mustang in a ditch nearby. The investigation revealed the passenger of the Mustang, Jonathan Andrew Wagner, 26, of Crofton, had been ejected from the vehicle upon impact and had died of injuries sustained after being ejected.

The Worcester County Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to investigate the crash. The investigation revealed the Mustang had been traveling south on Route 12 headed toward Girdletree when it crossed the centerline and struck the pick-up truck head-on.

The driver of the Mustang, Jeffrey Wagner, 30, also of Crofton, sustained serious injuries and was transported first to PRMC in Salisbury for treatment and subsequently flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. Jeffrey Wagner was wearing his seatbelt while his brother, passenger Jonathan Wagner who died after being ejected from the vehicle, was not.

The driver and passenger of the pick-up truck were transported to Atlantic General Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and released. Both the driver and passenger of the pick-up trucks were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

According to police reports, the use of alcohol on the part of the driver of the Mustang, Jeffrey Wagner, and excessive speed were factors in the collision. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
