Monday, March 24 – What’s Going On In April?

OCEAN CITY – With Easter falling earlier in the calendar than usual, there is a noticeable void in the Ocean City list of activities. However, that does not mean there are not plenty of events on tap for April, the first full month of spring. Here’s a look at some of those events:

April 4-6: Reach the Beach All Star Internationals, Convention Center, 40th St. & Bay: Cheerleading & dance competitions. One of the largest all star & college events in the country. Admission. Friday, 4-9 p.m.; Saturday, 7:30 a.m.- 11 p.m.; Sunday, 7:30 a.m.-11 p.m.

April 10: Hooked Rug Exhibit, Dunes Manor Hotel, 28th St. & Baltimore Ave.: Traditional hand-hooked rug exhibit featuring an extensive variety of rugs, wall hangings, pictures & more in primitive or tapestry style. April 25-26: Sweet Adelines Regional Convention & Competition, Convention Center, 40th St. & Bay: Entertaining weekend of four-part a capella harmony, sung in the barbershop style. The stage comes alive with dazzling costumes & choreographed music that spans decades of music. Admission. Friday, 5-10 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. (chorus contest), Saturday, 8:30-10 p.m. (Show of Champions).

April 25-27: MD International Kite Exposition, On the Beach, 1st St.- 6th St.: Come enjoy one of the largest kite festivals in the USA. Multi-level precision flying events using dual & quad line kites. Internationally known kite flyers show unique displays. Friday-Sunday, 9 a.m.- 9 p.m.

April 25-27: Ward World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition & Art Festival, Convention Center, 40th St. & Bay: Carvers and visitors from across the world convene for the most prestigious competition of wildfowl art, which includes benefit auction, classes, seminars & demonstrations, & children’s activities. Over 100 exhibitors of art & supplies, folk art, ceramics, jewelry & home decorating items. Admission. Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

April 26: Mid-Atlantic Symphony Season Finale, Community Church, Ocean Pines, Route 589: Orchestra performs Mozart’s “Overture to the Magic Flute,” Chopin’s “ Piano Concert No. 2 in F Minor” & “Shumann’s “ Symphony #3 in Eb Minor.” Admission. Saturday, 7:30 p.m. Pre-concert talk at 6:30 p.m. April 26: Board Walkin’ for Pets, OC Boardwalk at the Inlet: Popular event, this 9th annual dog walk benefits the Worcester County Humane Society. Prizes are awarded and event is held rain or shine. Saturday, 9 a.m. – noon.
