OCEAN CITY – Ocean City Police Corporal Brian Mongelli was chosen last week as the latest recipient of the Ocean City Neighborhood Watch Association’s 2007 “Officer of the Year” award.

Mongelli was feted at the association’s annual “Officer of the Year” awards banquet at Jordan’s Rooftop last Thursday with nearly 80 guests in attendance. The award is given annually by the Ocean City Neighborhood Watch Association, made up of representatives of six of the resort’s largest residential areas including Caine Woods, Caine Keys II, Montego Bay, Little Salisbury, Bayshore Drive and Edgewater Ave.

Mongelli is now the 12th recipient of the annual award. Last year’s Officer of the Year award went to long-time OCPD Lieutenant Scott Kirkpatrick, while Officer First Class Freddie Howard was the recipient in 2005.

Mongelli was an Ocean City Police seasonal officer for three years before joining the department full time in 1995. He is originally from Prince George’s County and has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Shippensburg University. He is currently assigned to the midnight shift.

Mongelli is also a long-standing member of the OCPD’s Quick Response Team (QRT) and the Burial Guard. He is also one of the longest certified bicycle officers in the OCPD. Mongelli served for a time as a narcotics detective in the OCPD’s Criminal Investigation Division. He was also a member of the Corporal Implementation Committee and has been involved in seasonal and full-time officer training where he has routinely served on employment interview boards.

Mongelli is also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 10 executive board where he serves as Sergeant at Arms.
