Ann Burke Buzzerd Dicken
BERLIN – Ann Burke Buzzerd Dicken, 76, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at her home in Ocean City.
Born in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Helena Burke Buzzerd. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Samuel Dicken; three sons, Theodore Dicken and his wife Stephanie of Burke, Va, Patrick Dicken and his wife Susan of Union Bridge, Md. and Anthony Dicken and his wife Joy of Ocean City; a daughter, MaryAnn Ottenberg and her husband Jeffery of Potomac Falls, Va.; five grand children, R. Neal Dicken, Burke Dicken, Michaela Ottenberg, Michael Dicken and Ashley Zotorzynski; and two great grandchildren, Nicholas and Neal Zotorzynski. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael W. Dicken.
Dicken was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She resided in Montgomery County for 30 years and was employed in the Automotive Business. She was an avid reader. Upon graduation from high school, Dicken spent a summer living in Ocean City. Upon retirement, her love of the ocean brought her back to Ocean City.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ocean City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802. Burbage Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Florence W. Parsons
BERLIN – Florence W. Parsons, 95, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at home after a brief illness.
She was born in Wango, (Wicomico County) on Aug. 31,1912 to Della Oliphant Wimbrow and Algie Ellis Wimbrow. She was married to Elton W. Parsons for 63 years until his death in 1998.
She graduated from Wicomico High School and Salisbury Normal School. After teaching in Prince George’s County for three years, she returned to Worcester County and taught fourth grade for many years. She was a member of Stevenson United Methodist Church for 74 years, serving as the church treasurer and singing in the Senior Choir for many of those years. She was also active in the United Methodist Women’s group. In her early years, she spent many hours with her children and grandchildren, enjoying the beach and her vegetable garden. She passed on her love of crocheting to two of her granddaughters. She began scrap booking early in her marriage and has donated 33 of her scrapbooks to the Calvin B. Taylor Museum. She was currently working on her last scrapbook which will be completed by her family and donated to the museum.
She is survived by her daughters, Beverly Carter and her husband, Cliff, of Randallstown, and Kay Bromley and her husband, Sam, of Berlin; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Meadows, and her brother, Samuel M. Wimbrow.
Her family appreciated the loving attention given to her by her caregivers, Veronica Purnell, Marguerite Cooper, Theresa Wyatt, Pansy Kee, Seryta Moore and Naomi Purnell and her hospice nurse, Cathy Haislip, and all the Coastal Hospice staff.

William Gerald Adkins
FENWICK ISLAND – William “Jerry Gerald Adkins, 71, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008.
Born near Selbyville, he was the son of the late C. Edward Adkins and Pearle Murray Adkins. He attended the former Selbyville High School’ graduated from St. James School in St. James, Md.; attended Emory University in Atlanta; graduated from the University of Delaware, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity; and for 10 years was a teacher at the former Lord Baltimore High School.
A prominent businessman in Sussex County, he was a real estate broker and developer. In addition to developing the Keenwicks, he owned and operated Treasure Beach RV Park, Bayville Shopping Center, Bayville Package Store and Bayville Marina.
He was a member and served the vestry of St. Martin’s In-the-Field Episcopal Church, Selbyville; Doric Masonic Lodge No. 30, Millville; Bethany-Fenwick Chamber of Commerce; Sussex County Board of Realtors; and the Rotary Club. He had previously served as chairman of the Delaware Solid Waste Authority and chairman of the Sussex County Democratic Committee and had been a member of the Delaware Judicial Committee for Magistrate Courts and on the Board of Delaware Technical and Community College, Owens Campus, Georgetown.
An avid traveler, he had traveled extensively in the U.S. and around the world, having visited many foreign and exotic places. For the last 25 years, he spent the winter months at his second home in Ocean Ridge, Fla. and although he really enjoyed hunting, his greatest passion was sailing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Junis B. Adkins; a son, Andrew W. Adkins and his wife Pamela of Fenwick Island; two daughters, Jerean Adkins and her companion Mark Warren of Fenwick Island and Heather Marsden and her husband Scott of Annapolis; and a sister, Patricia A. Derrickson and her husband William of Seaford. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Lauren, Alexander and Caroline Marsden and Christopher, Jonathan, Matthew and Andrew Thomas Adkins and several nieces and nephews.

Randall James Mariner
SNOW HILL – Randall James Mariner, age 80, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born in Snow Hill, he was the son of the late Otho McPhail Mariner, Sr. and Ella Gray Mariner. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joanne Beachboard Mariner. Also surviving are his sons, R. James "Jim" Mariner and his wife Jennifer of New Castle, Del. and Keith L. Mariner and his wife Debra of Ellicott City, Md. There are four grandchildren, Andrew, Krista, Michael and Katie Mariner. He is also
survived by a brother, Otho M. Mariner, Jr. and his wife Ida of Snow Hill, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Marshall G. Mariner, and a sister, Meta Doris Mariner.
Mariner had been a lifetime farmer and was a bus contractor with the Worcester County Board of Education for 39 years. He was a member of the Snow Hill Christian Church, Snow Hill Lions Club and Snow Hill American Legion Post #67.

John Thomas Hines
BERLIN – John Thomas Himes, age 79, died Friday, January 18, 2008 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late William B. and Marie Getzendanner Himes. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Franklin Himes; a son, John Thomas Himes and his wife Betty of Perry Hall; a daughter, Nancy Lansdale Himes of Owings Mills; a brother, William B. Himes, Jr. and his wife Margaret of Houston; and a sister, Wilma Stegman and her husband Donald of Ocean Pines. There are two grandchildren, Matthew Himes and Rebecca Marie Himes, both of Perry Hall.
A memorial service was held at St. Paul’s by the Sea in Ocean City.
