Decatur Athletes Honored By School Board

NEWARK – Stephen Decatur’s fall athletes collected several All-Bayside and All-State honors in various sports and each were honored by the Worcester County Board of Education last week.

Six Decatur football players were recognized for achieving All-Bayside Conference honors. Honored were junior quarterback Tim Donnelly, wide receiver Chris Crocker, linebacker Jeff Jester, James Reid, who made All-Conference on both sides of the ball; kicker Paul Kramer, who did not miss a kicker all season; and Demonte Tate, who led the team with 90 tackles as a safety.

Decatur’s volleyball team excelled last fall, compiling a 14-3 record and reaching the state regional semifinals. Recognized last week were Bayside MVP Kristen Lubeski, who led the conference in kills and blocks, and Destiny Rounds, who was also named first-team All Conference.

The Seahawk golf team enjoyed a successful season and two of its top players were recognized by the school board last week. Junior Kyle Gebhart finished first among 80 golfers from Eastern Shore schools with a nine-hole average of 36. Jake Miller finished third among the 80 golfers from the Eastern Shore and 22nd in the state tournament. Krall was named Bayside coach of the year.

From the Decatur field hockey team, Caitlin Walker was recognized last week as a first-team All-Bayside player last fall. Walker was a three-year starter on varsity and a senior captain this year.

Decatur’s varsity boys’ soccer team was led by four-year starter and senior captain Logan West, who lettered all three years in soccer and lacrosse and is headed to the Naval Academy next year.

The Seahawks girls’ varsity soccer team recognized Miranda Conaway and Julia Finecey, who were each named All-Bayside.

As far as Decatur cross country was concerned, Lindsey Chetelat won her second straight Bayside title last fall. Also recognized last week was Mitch Witherow, who came in second in the conference before a foot injury sidelined him for the regional and state competitions.
