William M. Hearne, Jr.

BERLIN – William M. Hearne, Jr., of Berlin, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008 at his home.

Born in Berlin, he was the son of the late William M. Hearne and Margaret M. Hearne. Hearne was a graduate of the Buckingham School in 1941. Working as a self-taught carpenter for 40 years, he was one of the Eastern Shore’s last true craftsman. After retiring from carpentry, he went to work for Napa Auto Parts in Berlin because he loved to be around people.

Hearn was an avid outdoorsman, past member of the Boumi Temple Shriners and a member of Evergreen Lodge #153 of the Masonic Order.

He was a devoted father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Banks Hearne, and a daughter Joan Adkins. He is survived by a  son, William M. Hearne, III and his wife Cathy of Pittsville; a daughter, Lynn H. Ziesing of Berlin; and a son-in-law, Laurence Adkins of Powellville.

There are six grandchildren; six great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service for his friends and family will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Mary P. Doran

BERLIN – Mary P. Doran, age 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008 at her home in Berlin.

Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Paul C. and Mary Hagins Bernhardt. She is survived by her beloved husband, John C. Doran; a son, Chuck Doran and his wife Paula; a daughter, Mary Helen Myers and her husband Scott; two brothers, Paul Bernhardt and his wife Connie and William Bernhardt and his wife Georgia; one sister, Linda Adams and her husband Richard; three grandchildren, Christopher, Jason and Heather; and three great grandchildren, David, Alexa and Nicholas.

Services were held at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

John W. Bradford

NEWARK – John W. "Billy" Bradford, age 78, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008 at his home in Newark.

Born in Maryland he was the son of the late Norman and Maude  Kelly Bradford. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carrie Bradford; a son, Everett LeCates and his wife Donna of Pittsville; a daughter, Christine Sifford and her husband Stuart of Salisbury; two sisters, Betty Jean Jerman of Newark and Gail Bishop of Ocean Pines; five grandchildren, Chase Sifford, Wyatt LeCates, Christopher LeCates, Dustin LeCates and Michelle Sifford; and two great grandchildren, Damien LeCates and Savannah LeCates. He was preceded in death by a sister Pauline Siedel.

Bradford had worked as a truck driver. He was a lifetime member of the Newark Volunteer Fire Company and a member of the American Legion Post 123 in Berlin. He loved the Shorebirds, NASCAR and the Delmar races.

Services were held at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Clyde Eugene Homan

OCEAN PINES – Clyde Eugene Homan, Jr., 57, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.

Born in Kodiak, Alaska, he was the son of the late Clyde Eugene Homan, Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Beula Jane Weber Homan of Norfolk, Va. and maternal grandmother Evangeline Fritz of Appleton, Wis. He is survived by his wife, Lucinda H. Homan, and two sisters, Lane Michael Homan of Berlin and Chase Edward Homan of Virginia Beach, Va. There is one sister, Celes Evangeline Homan Price of Virginia Beach.

Homan had been a shoe store manager for the Rack Room in Ocean City.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Friends may call one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lane and Chase Homan Scholarship Fund, c/o Calvin B. Taylor Bank, PO Box 5, Berlin, Md. 21811.
