Willa Cromwell
OCEAN PINES – Willa Cromwell, WWII Army nurse, 96, died at her home, Catered Living of Ocean Pines, where she had been lovingly cared for the last six years.
Daughter of Wade Dolph and Mary Marshall Mangum, she was born in Durham, N.C. She studied nursing at Johns Hopkins and Columbia. During WWII, she and her unit landed at Omaha Beach and served in field hospitals thereafter. After the war, she was active in the operation to vaccinate children with the Salk vaccine. While living in Williamston, N.C. she served as president of the Martin County General Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by three sisters-in-law, Jean Mangum of Petersburg, VA, Christine Mangum of Williamston, NC, and Vera Mangum of Ocean Pines; and three nieces and three nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Cromwell; a sister, Elynor Wilcox; and four brothers, Wade, Edwin, Clarence and Robert Mangum.

Richard V. Reppert, Sr.
BERLIN – Richard V. Reppert, Sr., 87, who worked for the Government Printing Office for 29 years before retiring in 1978 as Field Operations Officer, died Jan. 1, 2008, as a result of pneumonia.
In 1949 he moved from West Virginia to Washington, D.C., where he began his federal service career at GPO as a junior office helper in the Documents Division. In 1972, he achieved the position of Field Operations Officer. He managed and administered GPO bookstores and distribution centers in major cities throughout the United States. He served as an Army infantryman during WWII and was honored with several decorations and citations including the Purple Heart Medal. After retiring from GPO, he worked as a marshal at Falls Road Golf Course until he moved to Ocean Pines in Berlin in 1992.
Reppert is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Suzanne Timbol Reppert of Berlin. He is also survived by his sons by his first marriage, Richard V. Reppert, Jr. of Herndon, Va., Thomas Reppert of Bandung, Indonesia, Mark Reppert of Las Vegas, Nev., and Grant Reppert of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Albert Leonard Beyer
OCEAN PINES – Albert Leonard Beyer, 78, of Ocean Pines and formerly of North Haven, Conn., died Tuesday Jan. 1, 2008.
He was born on Nov. 8, 1929 in Queens, N.Y., son of the late Albert Beyer and Genevieve Hickey Beyer. In addition to his devoted wife, Edwina W. Beyer, he is survived by his loving children, Christopher, Catherine, Stephen and Gregory, as well as 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Janet V. Beyer and his brother, William Beyer.
Beyer was a dedicated Certified Public Accountant. After receiving his BA in Accounting from Quinnipiac College in Hamden Conn., Beyer worked as a CPA for Seward and Monde. Following that, Beyer was a partner in the firm Perlroth and Associates in Hamden, Conn. During his retirement, Beyer volunteered as a tax preparer and consultant for AARP.

Lenore O’Hara
BERLIN – Lenore O’Hara, age 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was the wife of Joseph Edward O’Hara. They observed their 55th Wedding Anniversary on Dec. 27.
O’Hara was born in Walsenburg, Colo. on Oct. 8, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Donaghue and Louise (Lopez) Danaghue.
She was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. She was one of the original employees at Rose’s in Ocean City. She left her job as ordering specialist to be the caregiver to her father, who lived to be 98. She enjoyed bowling, bridge, reading, her soaps and rooting for the Redskins.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Cathleen O’Hara-Hatfield and her husband Jack of New Market and Greg O’Hara and his wife Kathleen of Gilbertsville, Pa.; three grandsons, Sean and Adam Hatfield and Joseph Connor O’Hara; and a sister, Donna Bonar, and her husband Lou of Johnstown, Pa.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southwest Indian Foundation, PO Box 86, Gallup, N.M. 87302-0001. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home.
Cecil Houston Helton
BERLIN – Cecil Houston Helton, age 83, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Oklahoma, he was the son of the late Leonard Helton and Bernice Wright Helton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Culp Helton, in 1995 and by a son, Robert Helton, in 1974. He is survived by daughters, Barbara Sturgill and her husband Don and Linda Simpson and her husband Tim, all of Pocomoke City. Also surviving is a son Arthur Merritt and his wife Betty of Salisbury. There are 15 grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Audus Helton and his wife Chris of Moscow, Idaho, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Helton had been a manager with Wharton and Bernard Car parts in Pocomoke for many years. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and member of the Pocomoke City VFW.

John Franklin "Jack" Shockley
BERLIN – John Franklin "Jack" Shockley, 73, passed away after a long and courageous fight with cancer on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 surrounded by his family at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.
Born in Berlin he is the son of the late John H. and Hester L. Shockley. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife Ruth of 47 years; a son, John Charles "Chuck" Shockley, and a daughter, Carol Cross and her husband Shawn. He was the adored grandfather of Jessica Truitt Turner her husband Mike Jr. and Amy and Ashley Cross and his beloved dog "Puggy".
He graduated from Buckingham High School in 1952. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Army where he was a paratrooper in the 101st Air Borne Division. Upon his return to civilian life he was a proud member of the Maryland State Police. He was a lifetime Volunteer Fireman with the Showell Volunteer Fire Department and in his later years worked in security at the Showell Farms and Clarion Hotel.
Frederick Wayne Savage
BERLIN – Frederick Wayne Savage, 61, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 at Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury.
Born in Salisbury, he was the son of Doris Birch Savage and the late Robert J. Savage. He is survived by two uncles, Victor H. Birch and his wife Susan of Berlin and Curtis W. Birch of Ocean City, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by an aunt, Ruth B. Brown.
Savage attended Stephen Decatur High School. In his younger years, he worked on the Captain Bunting boat. He loved fishing boats and worked on the water most of his life. He was a Navy veteran and pursued a career in real estate (Savage Real Estate).
