Son Of Zilla Takes V-ball Title

OCEAN CITY- The Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department’s Adult Co-Rec Volleyball League season came to a close last week with the Son of Zilla team taking the championship with a 20-4 record.

After months of grueling matches that began back on September 18, the Son of Zilla team emerged with the league’s best record and was awarded the championship trophy. Son of Zilla edged out Old Pro Golf, which finished in second place with an 18-6 record. Ward’s Warriors came in third with an 11-13 record, followed by So Close (8-16) and Kirby’s Pub (3-12).

OC Recreation Supervisor Rod Dulany said the league has grown to become as much friendship and camaraderie as it is the sport of volleyball. “This program has grown so much,” he said. “The people that participate really enjoy the sport of volleyball, but they also enjoy the socialization and the relationships that they get from the other members of the league.”

Son of Zilla team member Tammy Beres agreed with Dulany’s assessment of the program. “Not only is it a great way to stay active, but it is also a nice place to socialize and spend time with your friends.”

With the fall season at an end, Co-Rec volleyball participants are already gearing up for the winter season which begins next month. The Winter Adult Co-Rec Volleyball League begins January 15 and runs until April 15 and is open to men and women ages 18 and older. The games are held on Tuesday nights at 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30. The cost is roughly $275 per team but is subject to change based on the number of teams participating. For more information, call Rod Dulany at (410) 250-0125.
