John Curtis Barchus, Sr.

BERLIN – John Curtis Barchus, Sr. of Cape May, N.J., formerly of Ocean City, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 25.

Barchus was a commercial fisherman. He loved the water, fishing, science fiction and cooking.

He was raised by his grandparents, Paige and Stella Bowden of Perryville, who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his mother, Jeanette Kathleen Bowden of Ohio.

He is survived by his three children, John and Christopher Barchus of Berlin and Rebecca Barchus of Jamestown, R.I.; brother, Perry Hackensmith of Berlin; and aunts, uncles, and cousins in Perryville.

Eva Maria Andrianos McCook

BERLIN – Eva Maria Andrianos McCook, 81, died peacefully in the early hours of Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007 at Coastal Hospice in Salisbury.

Born in Binghamton, N.Y. on Aug. 11, 1926 and raised in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late John and Franziska Richter Andrianos.

McCook was a devoted wife to James Howard McCook, and they were visitors to Ocean Pines for years before becoming permanent residents in 1983. She was active in tennis, Red Hats and Philanthropic Education Organization. She was president of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority twice as well as holding other offices throughout the years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Howard McCook, and a daughter, Mary Jane McCook. She is survived by her brother, Constantine (Dino) of Peabody Mass; sons, James of Hartford Conn. and Andy and his wife, Becky of Las Vegas; grand daughters, Jennifer of Dallas Texas, Jamie of Denton, Texas and Kimberly of Sacramento Calif; a first cousin, Ann Rinck and her husband John of Ocean Pines; nieces, great nieces and great nephews; and extended cousins near and far who all mourn her passing.

A memorial service was held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Berlin. A reception followed the service in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in the deceased’s memory to Coastal Hospice At the Lake, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802 or the the American Cancer Society. The family wishes to thank Gloria Lebling and all of McCook’s amazing friends. According to the obituary provided, you were the reason she loved the Pines.

Duane Harold Popp

BERLIN – Duane Harold Popp, age 79, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

Born in Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Carl Popp and Edna Hammond Popp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois A. Popp. He is survived by a son, Russell V. Popp and his companion Kendra; a daughter, Colleen Dinterman and her husband Howard; a nephew, Jene Blum and his wife Sheri; a niece, Donna Mae Hummel and her husband Frank; two sisters-in-law, Elinor Lytle and Dorothy Axtell and her husband Bill; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Vera Blum.

Popp had retired from Westinghouse after 35 years of service. He was a member of the National Guard in his younger years.

A memorial celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Popp’s name to Macular Degeneration Research, 22512 Gateway Center Dr., Clarksburg, Md. 20871.

Arrangements are by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

John Edward Randall

OCEAN CITY – John Edward Randall, 74, formerly of Baltimore, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John and Margaret Cushion Randall. He is survived by three sons, Wayne A. Jackson of Belcamp, Md., John E. Randall of Dundalk, Md. and Guy A. Randall of Williamsburg, Va.; two daughters, Sandra L. Fitzgerald of Marathon, Fla. and Karen Uhlik of Baltimore; a brother, William R. Randall from Dundalk; sisters, Frances E. Emege of East New Market, Md. and Louise Swontek of Ocean City; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was also like a father to Erin Pachuca and Lauren Starr.

Randall had been a supervisor for the Baltimore Mass Transit Authority and he was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Edward Sprung

BISHOPVILLE – Edward “Ed” Sprung, 78, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Lionel and Beatrice Rosenburg Sprung.

He is survived by his wife, Alcea Sprung of Bishopville; two step-daughters, Geraldine Hayden of Mechanicsville, Md. and Valerie Cullens of Roslyn, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Carl and Marc Hayden and Daniel Ryan; a nephew, Daniel Doff; and a niece, Janet Morra.

Sprung was an electronics technician in the aerospace industry and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
