Chetelat to Carry Decatur Banner at States

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s standout cross-country runner Lindsey Chetelat will be her school’s standard bearer tomorrow at the state championships as the lone Seahawk to qualify for the meet this year.

Chetelat took second in the Class 3A-Region qualifying event last week, finishing in 19:56:70. Neither Decatur team qualified for the team competition at states this year with the mens’ team finishing 12th and the womens’ team finishing 11th at the qualifying event. However, Chetelat, the defending Bayside Conference champion, did qualify as an individual and will compete in the state Class 3A meet.

Chetelat will be the only representative from the Eastern Shore in the Class 3A meet. Decatur was moved from Class 2A to Class 3A this year in all sports including cross country based on increased enrollment figures. As a result, Decatur is the only school on the Eastern Shore in Class 3A and Chetelat will be representing her school and an entire region.

The state championship cross-country meet gets underway tomorrow at Hereford High School in Baltimore County with the girls’ Class 3A meet set to get started at 10:30 a.m.
