Seaside 10/5K Held In Rain, Wind

OCEAN CITY – Despite the wind and heavy downpours at race time last Saturday, the 15th Annual Mid-Atlantic Seaside 10 and 5K race drew decent numbers with hundreds of runners from all over the country participating in the annual event.

The Seaside 10 is a 10-mile race that begins at the Inlet in Ocean City and meanders up Coastal Highway and back before finishing in the same spot. The 5K race also begins and ends at the Inlet and is run entirely on the Boardwalk. While the number of participants was curtailed by the weather, 234 runners competed in the Seaside 10 with 262 runners competing in the 5K.

In the Seaside 10, David Meade of Washington, D.C., came in first with a winning time of 1:03:22. Breck Vanderwende of Bridgeville was second at 1:04:04, while Marvin King of Alexandria was third at 1:05;44. The top female finisher was Maureen Hall of Lavale, Md., who finished 11th overall with a time of 1:11:46.

The top ten local finishers in the Seaside 10 were Theresa Moody of Berlin (39th- 1:19:02); Patti Moore of Ocean City (43rd, 1:20:22); Peter Maynard of Berlin (56th- 1:22:48); Leigh Biggerman of Ocean City (63rd- 1:23:53); Catherine Coffman of Berlin (91st- 1:28:47); Alison McKee of Ocean City (105th- 1:31:38); Barb Wisniewski of Bishopville (109th- 1:32:16); Jim Dickerson of Ocean City (126th- 1:34:41); Erika Esworthy of Berlin (154th- 1:41:00); and Connor Braniff of Bishopville (161st- 1:42:12).

In the 5K, it was Donald Zimak, 14, of Washington, Pa., taking first place with a winning time of 19:37. Chris O’Malley of Ellicott City was second at 19:53, while Charles Heward of Glen Burnie was third at 19:58. In the female group, Jessica Zimak, 15, of Washington, Pa., took first place in 20:18.

The top 10 local finishers in the 5K were Mark Shipley of Ocean City (14th- 22:43); Donald Parana of Berlin (17th- 22:56); Nolan Dove of Berlin (19th- 23:13); Logan Rodriguez of Berlin (25th- 23:57); Steve Green of Berlin (33rd-24:23); Debra Meinhardt of Ocean City (38th- 24:48); Jilian Whaley of Berlin (62nd- 27:17); Michael Wiley of Berlin (68th- 27:34); Jason Gulshen of Berlin (70th- 27:35); and Heather and Robert Little of Berlin (73rd and 74th- 27:43.)
