Monday, October 29 – Youth Golf Tourney Rescheduled

BERLIN – The third annual Swing For Youth Golf Open was postponed on Saturday due to heavy rain leaving the greens at Eagles Landing under puddles.

For the second year in a row, heavy rain and high winds have caused tournament officials to postpone the much-anticipated event.

“Its disappointing that we have had to postpone the event for the past two years,” said Kate Gaddis, Ocean City Recreation Superintendent. “It’s something that everyone looks forward to all year long and it is a bit of a let down to have to reschedule. Last year we had horrible weather on the original date but we were able to reschedule for a beautiful November day. We are hoping that the same thing will happen this year because ultimately this tournament is about having fun for a good cause. No one is going to have fun golfing in the rain.”

The Swing For Youth Golf Open will now take place on Saturday, Nov. 17 at Eagles Landing at 10 a.m. Due to conflicting schedules, some participants will not be able to play a part on the later date leaving opening for other players.

“It’s really important that we replace the teams that have dropped out of the tournament,” said Recreation Supervisor Chris Clarke. “This event raises more money for our programs than any other charity event throughout the year. Without a successful tournament we aren’t able to offer such affordable cost for our programs.”

Due to the withdraws from the tournament, there is an estimated five team openings for the rain date. With the help of the community sponsors, OC Recreation Boosters and all Swing For Youth participants, it is hopeful that enough money will be raised to continue to offset the cost of Ocean City Recreation Programs and children, as well as their families, will be able to enjoy the pleasures of the youth programs at reasonable cost.
