Annual Road Races Next Weekend In OC

OCEAN CITY – The Town of Ocean City’s Recreation and Parks Department is seeking volunteers to help at the running of the Mid-Atlantic’s most popular 10 mile and 5K runs. Ocean City’s 16th Annual Seaside 10 will race on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Volunteers are needed to staff water points and provide direction to runners from 8:30 a.m. until 12 noon. Some volunteers serve for only one hour. Volunteers need to arrive by 8 a.m. at the Inlet Lot on the day of the race. Each volunteer receives a free Seaside 10 T-shirt and refreshments. Runners from all around enjoy this challenging 10-mile race through scenic Ocean City, including the three miles of Boardwalk. The 5-kilometer fun run is for those who are looking for a good time and a challenge.

Come dressed for Halloween and compete for special awards for the best costumed runners. This event is fun for runners of all ages. Runners compete for plaques and the honor of being known as the fastest runner in town. Wheelchairs are always welcome.

The Seaside 10-Mile and 5K Runs feature the same scenic start and finish locations at the Inlet Parking Lot located at the southern most point in Ocean City. You can pick up your race number and T-shirt on Friday, Oct. 26 between 5 and 8 p.m. or on Saturday, Oct. 27 between 7 and 8:30 a.m. at the Inlet Parking Lot. Race time is 9 a.m. sharp! Please arrive early to pick up your race numbers.

The 5K run will proceed north on the Boardwalk to 17th St. and then back down the Boardwalk, returning to the Inlet Lot. The 10-mile run begins in the Inlet Lot, proceeds north on Baltimore Ave. to 33rd St., west to Coastal Highway and then north to 70th St. where it turns around, returning to 33rd St. in the bus lane, runs east and south to 27th St. and on to the Boardwalk finishing back in the Inlet Lot. This route should not delay any traffic.

Registration forms are available online at and at the Ocean City Dept. of Recreation and Parks, Northside Park, 125th St. and bayside. Race fee is $25. The race fee includes a commemorative long-sleeve mock turtleneck T-shirt and refreshments following the race.
