Seahawks Split Two

BERLIN- The Stephen Decatur boys’ varsity soccer team’s up and down season continued this week with a 1-0 win over Mardela after a 1-0 loss to Crisfield last Thursday.

The Seahawks have a decent 5-2 record on the season, including a 3-1 mark in the Bayside Conference, but it has been feast or famine in virtually all of their games. A goose egg has shown up in the box score in each of the Seahawks’ games this year on either side of the ledger.

For example, Decatur beat St. Michael’s, 1-0, in its first game, but lost to Kent Island, 4-0, in its second game. The Seahawks then reeled off back-to-back shutout wins, beating Wicomico, 1-0, and Colonel Richardson, 3-0.

The pattern continued during the last week with a 1-0 loss to Crisfield last Thursday and a 1-0 win over Mardela on Tuesday. Sidney Grupper scored Decatur’s lone goal in the win over Mardela, while goalkeeper Nick Hogan, who recorded five saves, and the Seahawk defense were outstanding.

The Jeckyl and Hyde Seahawks face a tough stretch in the schedule over the next few days with a road game against Bennett this afternoon followed by a pair of home games early next week including a match-up with Kent County on Monday and county rival Snow Hill on Tuesday.
