49th Labor Day Tourney Underway

OCEAN CITY- While it may lack the glamour and high payouts of the White Marlin Open, the Ocean City Marlin Club’s 49th Annual Labor Day White Marlin Tournament, which got underway this morning, does not lack the history or prestige.

Called the “granddaddy” of the resort area fishing tournaments, the Marlin Club’s annual Labor Day tournament is the oldest among the tournaments held in and around Ocean City each year. Participating boats must choose to fish two of the three scheduled fishing days- Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Lines can hit the water after 8 a.m. and must be pulled by 3 p.m., with daily weigh-ins scheduled each day at the Ocean City Fishing Center from roughly 5-7:30 p.m.

Cash prizes will be awarded for first-, second-, and third-place in the billfish release points division, as well as the top three spots in the heaviest fish divisions. An awards banquet will be held following the close of the scales on Sunday evening.
