Candy Jean Smawley

SELBYVILLE – Candy Jean Smawley, 48, died Thursday, June 14 at home.

Survivors include her father and step-mother, Robert O. Clower, Jr. and Sue Clower of Fenwick Island; mother, Jean Donovan of Dover; son, Matthew Tucker Smawley; sweet heart, Kevin R. Parcells of Selbyville and the entire Parcells family; and brother Robert O. Clower III of Fenwick Island.

She had been the food and beverage manager at Bayside in Selbyville.

A funeral service was held on Monday at Hastings Funeral Home.

Jackie Lee Smock

BERLIN – Jackie Lee Smock, age 59, died Thursday, June 7, 2007 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

Born in Dubuque, Iowa, he was the son of Darlene Devos and the late Ralph Smock. He is survived by a step-father, Henry Devos; two daughters, Jacqueline Smock of Dover and Jamie Moller of Virginia; two step-children, Angela Bratton and Theresa Koshollek; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Smock.

Services and Interment are private. Arrangements are by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Harold Jackson Rayne, Jr.

OCEAN CITY – Harold Jackson Rayne, Jr., age 86, of Ocean City, died Saturday, May 26, 2007.

Born on June l, 1920, he was the beloved husband of the late Esther Simpson Rayne; devoted father of Sally Rayne Rivello and her husband David; and adored grandfather of John Rayne Rivello.

Rayne was the owner and operator of Rayne’s Store on Dorchester Street in Ocean City and also delivered milk in Ocean City.

He graduated from Washington College where he was the pitcher on their baseball team as well as a pitcher for the Berlin Bombers and a member of the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II on the USS Dickman and participated in the invasions of Normandy, North Africa and Italy. He was a member of the American Legion Sinepuxent Post. He loved duck and quail hunting and in recent years, riding his tricycle and talking to neighbors.

A funeral service was held at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin on Wednesday, May 30. Interment was private.

William Harvey Parsons

OCEAN CITY – William Harvey Parsons, age 75, died Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.

Born in Ocean City, he was the son of the late Howard and Lillian Cropper Parsons.

Parsons is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Sharon Parsons; a son, Wayne Parsons and his wife Deborah of Ocean City; two step-children, Patti Cropper and her husband David and John Brittingham and his wife Donna, all of Ocean City; a brother, Howard Parsons, Jr. and his wife Evelyn of Ocean City; a sister, Joan McCrory of Salisbury; two grandchildren, Rebecca Parsons and Moe Cropper; and his mother-in-law, Mary Lee Wooten. Also surviving is Mindy Lou, his Boston Terrier.

He was predeceased by a sister, Lillian Mae Parsons.

Parsons had retired from Delmarva Power after 38 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 166 in Ocean City, Vin Cinq Club of Delmarva Power, Maryland Farm Bureau and Bethany United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees.

He loved traveling and gardening. He took pride in maintaining a fleet of vehicles, which he kept in pristine condition. His daily routine included breakfast with his Arby’s family and visits to the Ocean City Harbor with Mindy Lou, his sidekick.

A funeral service was held at the Burbage Funeral Home. The Rev’s. Patty Frick and Olin Shockley officiated. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Berlin.

Sgt. Charles H. Geher

BERLIN – Sgt. Charles H. Geher, age 74, died Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

He was the son of the late George and Lillian Schallenberg Geher.

Born and raised in Bronx, N.Y., Geher served in the US Marie Corps in the Korean War. He was a member of the Marine Corps League – 1st state detachment.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maureen Geher; a daughter, Eileen Dorn; a brother, Ed Geher; three sisters, Gladys Geher, Edna Moro, and Marion Lorzing; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

A funeral service was held at the Community Church of Ocean Pines. The Rev. Dottie Clark officiated.

Floyd E. Moore

SHOWELL – Floyd E. Moore, 73, died Saturday, June 2, 2007 at home.

Born in Ironshire, Md., he was the son of the late Clayton and Edna Webb Moore.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy V. Moore; a son, Tim Moore of Showell, Md.; two brothers, Clayton Moore of Snow Hill and Fred Moore of Berlin; a sister, Dorothy Hastings of Berlin; and two grandchildren.

Moore had worked for Mumford Sheet Metal Works in Selbyville for over 40 years. He was a past chief and life member of Showell Volunteer Fire Department for 50 years. He was an U.S. Army veteran.
