Jane Marie Ruckman

BERLIN – Jane Ruckman, 65, of Berlin, beloved wife of the late Thomas Ruckman, died at her home in Berlin. Born in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late John and Jennie Sullivan.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Owens and granddaughter, Amberle Booker of Pennsylvania; grandson, Wesley Soto; son-in-law, Michael Booker; brother and sister-in-laws, John and Ann Sullivan and Melvin and Geraldine Sullivan; sisters and brother-in-laws, Jean and Bob Johnson and Maxine and William Strickler; several nieces and nephews; and her extended family within Berlin and from Venables Cleaners.

Following cremation, a service dedicating a memorial garden at the Berlin home is planned for the fall. Friends will be welcome to join the family in this service, which will be announced.

Cora A. Hickman

HARBESON – Cora A. Hickman, 97, of Harbeson, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, June 10, 2007.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaiah Mitchell; her husband, William (Bill) Hickman; two children, Harry G. Hickman and Josephine Hickman; one grandson, Harry W. Hickman; and 10 of her siblings.

She is survived by two grandsons, whom she and Bill raised, Gary and Barry Hickman, both of Harbeson; four great grandchildren, Lance and Kelsey Hickman of Harbeson and Cassidy and Seth Hickman of Crestview, Fla.; one nephew, Lloyd Rust; and her sister-in-law, Virginia Rust, who lovingly helped care for her. She had a great love for her family and animals. She was generous and always was young at heart. In her earlier years, she loved playing with her grandkids, traveling, and going to yard sales.

Graveside services were held.

Jackie Lee Smock

BERLIN – Jackie Lee Smock, age 59, died Thursday, June 7, 2007 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

Born in Dubuque, Iowa, he was the son of Darlene Devos and the late Ralph Smock. He is survived by a step-father, Henry Devos; two daughters, Jacqueline Smock of Dover and Jamie Moller of Virginia; two step-children, Angela Bratton and Theresa Koshollek; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Smock.

Services and Interment are private. Arrangements are by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

James “Butch” Narrington

OCEAN CITY – James "Butch" Narrington, long time Ocean City resident and local favorite, passed quietly Sunday, June 3, 2007 after a brief illness.

Born July 4, 1944, he was a practicing plumbing engineer at Washington Hospital Center for 25 years before retirement.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Loretta, he was a devoted husband for 35 years. He is survived by his daughters, Courtney and Jessica Rembold.

"Butch" was a member of Ocean City Elks Lodge 2645, where he enjoyed camaraderie and golf. He will be missed by innumerable friends. As per "Pop’s" wishes, a small gathering of family and friends will say goodbye and reflect on a life well lived on a later date.

Kathryn Staci

BERLIN – Kathryn I Staci, age 88, died Sunday, June 10, 2007 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

Born in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late William Loder and Catherine Gross Loder. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James J. Staci. She is survived by three daughters, Edwina Unterberger and her husband Walt, Catherine Rulis and her husband Carl and Frances Abruzzo; a grandson Phillip Bond and his wife Crystal; and one great grandchild, Michael Russel.

A funeral service was held at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Deborah D. Hays

BERLIN – Deborah D. Hays, age 55, died Saturday, June 9, 2007.

Born in Delaware, she was the daughter of the late Gene and Lillian Anderson Deery. She is survived by a son, Tyler Hays; a daughter, Kelly Hays; and a brother, Gene Neil Deery, Jr.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, June 16, at 1 p.m. at Sunset Grille, 12933 Sunset Ave., West Ocean City, Md. 21842. Arrangements are by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Kathleen T. Burton

OCEAN CITY – On June 8, 2007, Kathleen Tull Burton, beloved wife of the late Raymond W. Burton of Ocean City, died.

She was the devoted mother of Brenda Burton Rairigh of Georgia and predeceased by two daughters Barbara Ann Burns and Kathleen Tull Cavey. She was an adored grandmother of R. Ridgely Rairigh, Jr. of Georgia and Tracy Burns Wallace of Georgia and great grandmother of John Burton Wallace,V, Ryan Christopher Wallace, Timothy James Wallace, Caroline Grace Rairigh and Cameron Ridgely Rairigh.

Burton was a charter member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Ocean City, an avid fishing and boating enthusiast, a school teacher in the Baltimore School system and co-owner of Catonsville Bakery for many years.
