Pa. Man Knifed After Breaking In Room

OCEAN CITY – A Pennsylvania man was slashed in the side with a knife this week after breaking into a resort motel room to confront two men he had argued with earlier in the evening.

Stephen Smith, 24, and his friend, Justin Wiker, 24, both of Northampton, Pa. were staying at the Spinnaker Motel on 18th Street when they became involved in a verbal argument with some other men also staying at the motel. Around 3:45 a.m. on Monday, Smith and Wiker climbed over balconies at the motel to reach the room where the men they had argued with earlier were staying. The room, 519, where the other men were staying was four doors down from the room occupied by Smith and Wiker.

After breaking into the room, Smith and Wiker began fighting with the two men in the room. During the altercation, Smith received a slash wound to his side. Shortly thereafter, other guests in the motel broke up the fight and removed Smith from the room. Ocean City Paramedics responded to the scene and Smith was ultimately flown to Peninsula Regional Medical Center via Maryland State Police helicopter.

Wiker was arrested on the scene and charged with second-degree assault and third-degree burglary. Similar charges are pending against Smith, who was admitted to PRMC and is currently listed in stable condition. No charges have been filed against any of the other men involved in the fight in room 519 as of press time, although the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
