Errors Doom Seahawk Softball Team

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity softball team had an up
and down week with a 15-0 win over Southern in the first round of the state
Class 2A-East Region tournament on Monday, followed by a disappointing 11-1
loss to Easton on Wednesday in the region semifinals.

Decatur ran into a buzz saw in top-seeded Easton on
Wednesday, falling to the Warriors, 11-1, to close out what was another great
season for the Seahawks. The 11-1 score was not indicative of how the game
went. With the steady Ali Justice on the mound for Decatur, the two teams
battled to a 1-1 tie through five innings before the Seahawks blew up in the
sixth. Decatur committed four errors in the sixth and Easton put 10 runs on the
board to end the contest once and for all.

The week started out great for Decatur, which took no
prisoners in its first game in the state playoffs, blitzing visiting Southern
of Anne Arundel County, 15-0, in the Class 2A-East Region quarterfinals to
advance in the tournament.

Ali
Justice was her usual unbeatable self on the mound, pitching a shutout for four
innings, and the Decatur bats provided more than enough firepower to advance to
the region semifinals. Kylie Nottingham went 2-3 at the plate, driving in four
runs and scoring three times. Haley Socha was also impressive at the plate,
going 2-3 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Kate Zimmer went 2-4 and drove in
three runs.
