Decatur Boys’ Lax Upset in OT

The Seahawks played well all year and earned a number-two
seed in the Class 3A-2A East bracket and a first round bye. However, their
appearance in the state tournament was short-lived with an 11-10 overtime loss
to Northeast at home last Saturday. After the two teams were tied at 10-10 at
the end of regulation, Northeast’s Donovan Lange scored a goal just 44 seconds
into the overtime period to end the game and the season for the Seahawks.

The two teams were tied at 2-2 at the end of the first
quarter and Northeast took a 4-2 lead into halftime. The Seahawks outscored the
Indians, 5-4, in the third quarter to cut the lead to 8-7 going into the
fourth. Again, Decatur outscored Northeast three goals to two in the final
period to tie the game at 10-10 at the end of regulation, but Northeast grabbed
the early goal in overtime to pull off the upset.

West led all Decatur scorers with three goals, while Bruce Howe, Paul Kramer
