Mallards Teams Advance To ESIAC Finals

BERLIN – Worcester Prep’s men’s and women’s varsity
lacrosse teams each took care of business in impressive fashion on Wednesday,
routing their opponents in the semifinals of their respective Eastern Shore
Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) semifinals to advance to the
championship games in the tournament.

The Mallards’ sweep sets up a pair of championship games
at home this afternoon. The men’s team will play old rival Salisbury School for
the title, while the women will face nemesis Saints Peter and Paul in their
championship game.

Before the teams could get to the finals, they had some
unfinished business to take care on Wednesday. The Worcester boys team routed
Gunston Day, 17-0, behind a balanced offensive attack that saw four players
score hat tricks. Christian Payne, Travis Gregory, Will Regan and Dan Bunting
each scored three goals to lead the offense. Hank Fisher scored two goals,
while Justin Butler and Max DiFilippo each added single tallies. Goalie
Christian Coates and the Worcester defense turned in a perfect game keeping
Gunston off the scoreboard.

Over on the girls’ field, the Mallards enjoyed a similar
outcome as Worcester thrashed Salisbury School, 17-6. Alexa Wyatt led the
attack with four goals, while Sophie Townsend added three and Alexandra Smith
and Sarah Ann Showell pitched in two each.

The
win over Salisbury School sets up today’s ESIAC championship game with old
rival Sts. Peter and Paul. Worcester beat the Saints last week in
double-overtime.
