Towson Inks Another Seahawk Lax Player

BERLIN – Another standout girls’ lacrosse player from
Stephen Decatur High School will take her game to the next level as senior
captain Katie Priestley yesterday signed a letter of intent to play at Towson
University.

In a Decatur women’s lacrosse program profile, Priestley’s
favorite quote is “Live the phrase the sky’s the limit,” and the sentiment does
not appear to be truer for the Seahawk senior. A four-year starter on a
respected girls lacrosse program, Priestley excels on the field and in the
classroom and will take those attributes to a big-time Division I program at
Towson.

With her family and teammates surrounding her, Priestley
signed the letter of intent at Decatur’s media center yesterday. She follows
another teammate to Towson in Ali Lathroum, who signed a letter of intent to
play at the Baltimore area school earlier this year.

Priestley is part of a larger group of young players at
Decatur who have come up through the various youth programs in the area such as
Beach Lacrosse and played together for several years. In a short time, Decatur
has gone from a club level lacrosse team to a powerhouse on the Eastern Shore.
Last year, the team went to the state finals before losing and this year the
Seahawks are undefeated as they plow through their schedule.

“This is another great day for the student athletes here
at Decatur,” said Principal Lou Taylor. “Lacrosse has blossomed rather quickly
here at Decatur and it’s a credit to the coaches and these great players.
Decatur has become the cream of the crop, especially in the Bayside, and we
have a program here that everyone else is chasing and would like to model their
program after.”

Decatur Coach Bob Musitano said he has coached Priestley
for four years and credited her role in the success of the program.

“Katie is a self starter with a great attitude and is a
fierce competitor,” he said. “Probably the best word to describe her is
‘focused.’ She has been a joy to coach.”
